Nice welcoming comment on the SLU Fan Forum after learning of Jonathan's decision to sign with SLU...

"Welcome aboard Jonathan Dents, 6-2, 200, WR, Birdville HS, Richland Hills, Tx...nice find after the signing date and should make up for the loss of Reggie Travis to Memphis...to be honest, I think we may have come out better - Dents is more physical, more polished, and played in a much better program that throws the football...caught 45 balls, and averaged nearly 22 yards per catch, and 18 TDs as a senior...great student with a 26 ACT and 1570 SAT...had offers from Cal Poly, Harvard, VMI and NW State.

Here's his senior video...makes some great catches about halfway through...shows good downfield blocking ability in the latter half."

Jonathan will sign with Southeastern Louisiana.

Jonathan's official visit to Southeastern Louisiana University went very well.

Jonathan enjoyed his official visit to VMI where he sees a great opportunity to contribute early.

He plans to make a tough decision to sign with either Southeastern Louisiana or VMI by Saturday, 2/13.

Jonathan's next official visit will be to VMI and possibly Southeastern Lousiana.

Official visit to Texas A&M Commerce postponed.

Official visit to Harvard went very well but no commitment made.

Jonathan is headed to Cambridge Massachusetts for an official visit to Harvard University later in the month of January.  He also has a couple of other visits pending.

January should be an interesting month for Birdville recruit, Jonathan Dents. He expects to receive several official offers as national signing day approaches.

There is also a potential Big 12 preferred walk-on offer coming Jonathan's way.

11/10/09 - Comments from coach Young, Lake Dallas, before playing Birdville in the first round of playoffs:

Is that you Bud Sasser? Nope its Birdville WR Jonathan Dents, who has caught 17 TDs this year.
"He reminds me a lot like Sasser," Young said. "He is great in the short game because he can break tackles and get by you. If he gets by us we won't catch him."

8/10/09 - Jonathan's thoughts on the upcoming season.  "I'm really excited about my final year of high school football.  My teammates and I have worked very hard this summer.  I have some personal goals that I will keep private.  My key focus will be on helping my team make a deep playoff run.  Before we can make a deep playoff run, we will need to work hard every day in practice and get better with each game.  I look forward to helping my team on both offense and defense.  It will be a fun year!"

7/20/09 - Jonathan is named to the Star-Telegram Area Top 50 list of 2010 area recruits.  He is one of eleven wide receivers on the list.

7/20/09 - Jonathan is continuing his Olympic weight lifting program.  He has added 4-6 pounds of muscle, become stronger, more explosive, and faster.  He will begin training with a former Dallas Cowboy receiver this week to develop better route running, reading of coverage, release techniques, and improved football IQ.

6/12-14/09 - Jonathan attended camps at TCU, UTEP, and Baylor.  He performed well at all 3 camps with the Baylor camp on 6/14 as his best camp of the summer.  He hopes his performance in these camps will lead to additional offers.

6/7/09 - Jonathan participated in the SMU mini-camp today.  He was asked to go with the safeties by the recruiter because "we already know what you can do at receiver."  He performed well in skills drills, followed instructions well as told to him by the position coach, and had 3 deflections and 1 interception during 1 on 1 drills.  SMU is considering offering Jonathan as an ATHLETE.

6/1/09 - Jonathan received his first offer today from Northwestern State.  Jonathan also participated in the NSU mini-camp where he proved himself worthy of the offer.

5/27/09 - After receiving calls from Northwestern State and UTEP, Jonathan believes he is close to receiving offers from those schools.  A good camp performance could be the difference.  The same situation exists for the SMU camp.  He was previously told by the recruiter that they are close to offering as well.

Jonathan had a great spring football showing.  His ball skills are much improved over the 2008 season.  He also worked at safety showing great instincts to break up passes and not letting anyone get deep on him.

So far, Jonathan plans on attending five football camps this summer.  Baylor , Northwestern State, SMU, TCU, and UTEP are on his schedule.  More schools could be added depending on interest shown by other schools.

Jonathan will begin focusing on adding 7 to 10 pounds of muscle before fall drills.  He will add muscle through a weight lifting program.  In addition to adding muscle, he will work on improving explosive power.  Also, he will be working with a former Dallas Cowboys receiver to improve his receiver skills.

The remaining spring and summer will also include playing 7on7 tournaments.  His Birdville team will be playing in both State Qualifying Tournaments and league play.
